Your frazzled hair enchanted in twilight rays
pops out of the monotone wintry hue –
‘As your friend, I must advise you:
snatch your escape from this barren tundra’,
as the one who loves you,
I must advise me not to puke.
‘Go on,
step out of the blizzard and into the breeze’,
I shall not stop you,
I will merely asphyxiate
from the lump precipitating in my throat.
‘Don’t look so hesitant,
the sun waits for you’,
I always hoped your liberation
would be ours,
but no matter –
‘Out there, you will be warm,
warmer than you have ever felt;’
your warmth revived the cold
death hidden in my flesh.
‘You must take it’;
you were my fire in our coldest nights,
but now you are jumping to new kindle.
‘You must follow the demands
your heart whispers’,
I was not a desire your heart whispered for.
‘Be free!’,
be more than me.
I love you.
Everything feels blurry right now,
but I do know that.
